I adore books. I love stop motion. If you can somehow combine the two, well then that is just pure magic.
The New Zealand Book Council worked with agency Colenso BBDO and animators Andersen M Studio to produce this lovely bit of film.
Utilizing paper craft animation the campaign was designed to, of course, promote reading. (Sad that we have to promote one of the life’s most wonderful pleasures.) But in addition the NZ Book Council also wants to promote New Zealand writers and artists.
Enjoy! …
This is really beautiful, but I can’t think of anything clever to say about it!
I wish the audio were clearer, or, if the distorted audio patches were key to the mood wanted, I wish there had been an unobtrusive side-scrolling subtitle in a classic typeface font. The problem with it as it is is that, the words caught and swept you along through the audible portions, and then were lost to you.
Hell, that’s nonsense: a subtitle’s a bad solution. Your eyes should be occupied by the visuals, and the words should be clear enough to hear. Period.
It is a minor quibble! The thing itself was SO well done, that just that jarring loss stood out so much the more.
I know what you mean. At first I thought wondered if it was the accent that made it difficult at times but then I realized that wasn’t the case and I decided that it is likely that the original didn’t have the issue and that it may have something to do with the transfer to video. I agree it is a shame to have that distraction in an otherwise really stellar presentation.
